What Is Mead and What Does Arkansas Meadery Produce?

Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in human history. Often called “honey wine,” it is made by fermenting honey with water and yeast. Unlike beer or grape wine, mead’s primary ingredient is honey, giving it a distinctive character and flavor profile that can vary widely depending on the honey and additional ingredients used.

Arkansas Meadery focuses on handcrafted artisan meads using local wildflower honey. The meads they produce include:

Original Traditional Mead – A completely dry mead with no residual sugars. Fermented to about 16% ABV, this mead is crisp, smooth, and highlights the natural honey flavor from wildflower nectar.
Ozark Elder – A flavored mead offering with fruit-inspired notes that add a layer of complexity to the traditional base.
Hawg’s Blood – Another signature flavored mead in the lineup, known for its bold character.

These bottlings are distributed in retail stores throughout Arkansas and reflect both traditional and adventurous approaches to mead-making.

Mead can range from bone dry styles like Arkansas Meadery’s traditional mead to more fruit-forward versions like Ozark Elder and Hawg’s Blood, offering something for both newcomers and seasoned drinkers to enjoy.
