The Bourbon Club of Arkansas (BCA) has announced its next barrel selection—an 8-year-old 1792 Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey drawn from Warehouse G at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Selected from four barrels during an on-site tasting, this pick reflects BCA’s long-standing preference for bold, uncompromising whiskey. The chosen barrel came out of the rickhouse at 134.1 proof and was bottled at 125 proof, meeting the legal definition of Full Proof and preserving the barrel’s full character.

BCA founder Gary Penna shared the following account of the selection process, offering insight into how the barrel was chosen:
“It was a chilly 31° Tuesday morning and the air was full of aging whiskey in the ancient rickhouse at Barton 1792 where four barrels were presented to us for selection. We quickly realized that to truly pick out the best barrel possible for BCA, we would have to move the selection process into a more temperate climate.
Whiskey, as it approaches freezing, gets cloudy and extremely viscous, and the nose and palate would be greatly affected. The team quickly gathered up our samples and moved into the gift shop and ‘official’ new tasting room. Once our hands, nose, and other senses came back to us—and the whiskey warmed back to room temperature—we reconvened and began the selection process.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you our next pick: a 134.1 proof out of the barrel, bottled at 125 proof, Warehouse G, 8-year-old 1792—Full Taste, Full Power, Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.”

1792 Bourbon is produced at the historic Barton 1792 Distillery, one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in Kentucky. Founded in 1879 as the Tom Moore Distillery, the site later became known as Barton Distillery before adopting the 1792 name—honoring the year Kentucky was admitted as the 15th state.
Barton 1792 is respected for its traditional production methods and expansive aging inventory. The distillery’s multiple rickhouses—many decades old—are known for producing mature, oak-forward bourbon with depth and consistency. Unlike many modern operations, Barton has long maintained control over its aging and bottling processes, contributing to the brand’s reliability across releases.
1792 bourbons are built on a high-rye mash bill, giving them a recognizable balance of:
This profile makes 1792 particularly well-suited for higher-proof expressions, where flavor intensity remains balanced rather than abrasive.
1792 Full Proof is bottled at 125 proof, the highest proof allowed for bourbon by law. It is proofed using the same water source used during fermentation, preserving the whiskey’s original barrel character. This approach has helped make 1792 Full Proof one of the most respected high-proof releases in the category, including earning Best Bourbon honors at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Private selection groups frequently gravitate toward 1792 because:
This 1792 Full Proof selection continues BCA’s tradition of seeking out barrels that prioritize flavor, structure, and authenticity over mass appeal. Pulled from Warehouse G and bottled at full proof, this pick stands as a textbook example of why 1792 remains a favorite platform for serious barrel selections within the Arkansas bourbon community.
