Tasting Notes (Courtesy of Taylor Golden)
The following tasting notes were provided by Taylor Golden, founder of the Spa City Bourbon Group, following the group’s evaluation of the barrel.
Nose
Golden notes that the nose opens with fresh apple cider, followed by oak, toasted marshmallows, and cola. With time, additional hints of spearmint become noticeable, adding a subtle herbal element.
Palate
On the palate, Golden describes peanut brittle up front, transitioning into lightly roasted almonds. As the whiskey develops, rye spice emerges, accompanied by notes of nutmeg and cinnamon toward the finish.
Finish
The finish is described as medium in length, with cinnamon notes intensifying slightly before fading into a lingering cherry cola character.
An Approachable Single-Barrel Selection
According to the Spa City Bourbon Group, this barrel offers a strong representation of traditional Kentucky bourbon without commanding a high price point. The whiskey was described as enjoyable neat, while a few drops of water reportedly introduce additional chocolate notes.
With its balanced flavor profile and approachable proof, Barrel 13157 is positioned as a versatile pour—equally suitable for casual sipping or more thoughtful tasting—making it a strong candidate for a daily drinker among Central Arkansas bourbon enthusiasts.
