The Bodiddles story

Bodiddles Wine & Spirits opened in January 2017, founded by Benton native Carl West — known around
town simply as “Bodiddle.” The store sits at 1611B Military Road, in a former Bass Pro Shop space
inside a building the West family developed in 1978.

The West name has been tied to business in Benton for more than a century, with roots in Central
Arkansas reaching back to the mid-1800s. Carl’s grandfather ran sawmills, gas stations, and a liquor
store in the 1920s, and opened one of the area’s first convenience stores. A board member of the
Benton Area Chamber of Commerce, Carl carries that entrepreneurial legacy forward today — and the
store wears it proudly: “Benton owned, Benton proud.”

Bodiddles also anchors a small local cluster at 1611 Military Road: Bodiddles Barber and Salon sits
right next door, opened in partnership with Shelley Platt of Rumors Hair Design and now serving
both men and women, alongside longtime tenant Young’s Jewelers.

Why Bodiddles is a Store of Notoriety

Bodiddles has built its reputation on friendly, knowledgeable service and a selection that punches
well above its footprint — customers regularly travel from out of town for hard-to-find items like
mead. In May 2026 the store made its first-ever single barrel pick: a 9-year Elijah Craig Barrel
Proof bourbon bottled at 129.5 proof.

The 2024 fire and rebuild

That community-first reputation showed its full weight in May 2024, when an early-morning fire that
began in the neighboring Young’s Jewelers spread through the 1611 Military Road building, damaging
both Bodiddles Wine & Spirits and Bodiddles Barber and Salon. No one was hurt, but the losses were
heavy — much of the liquor store’s equipment and records were gone. The response from Benton was
immediate, with first responders, the American Legion, and a flood of messages from customers
offering help. Carl West’s answer was simple: he would rebuild.
