Springhill Wine & Spirits in North Little Rock just unveiled their newest Four Roses Single Barrel selection — and this one is a standout. Bottled at barrel strength and aged over ten years, this OBSO recipe is a perfect example of why Four Roses remains one of Kentucky’s most respected bourbon producers.

This private barrel pick highlights the OBSO recipe — one of the ten unique combinations Four Roses creates from its two mash bills and five yeast strains. OBSO typically delivers a bold, spicy character thanks to its higher rye content, balanced by sweet oak and rich caramel from its decade in the barrel.

About Four Roses Distillery

Four Roses is one of Kentucky’s most storied bourbon distilleries, tracing its heritage back to the late 1800s. The brand was founded by Paul Jones Jr., who trademarked the name in 1888 after moving his business to Louisville, Kentucky. According to company legend, the name Four Roses was inspired by a romantic gesture — a corsage of four red roses that symbolized a “yes” to his marriage proposal.

The distillery itself was constructed in 1910 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and features distinctive Spanish Mission–style architecture, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After several decades of limited U.S. distribution, Four Roses was revived under the ownership of Kirin Brewery Company, Ltd., which purchased the brand in 2002 and returned it to American shelves.

Today, Four Roses is celebrated for its innovative approach to bourbon production. The use of two mash bills (E and B) and five proprietary yeast strains (V, K, O, Q, and F) allows for ten unique bourbon recipes. This combination gives Four Roses the flexibility to craft complex, layered flavor profiles across its single barrel and small batch releases.

Why This Release Stands Out

This barrel’s age of 10 years and 5 months offers a depth of character that bourbon enthusiasts will appreciate — long enough to bring out mature oak tones while maintaining balance. At 111.8 proof, it delivers plenty of strength without overpowering its sweet and spicy notes.

The OBSO recipe in particular is known for its rich fruit and baking spice flavors, paired with hints of oak and vanilla. Fans of higher-rye bourbons often seek this recipe for its complexity and long finish.

If you’re in Central Arkansas, this is a release worth checking out. Springhill Wine & Spirits reports having ample bottles available, but as with any private barrel pick, once they’re gone, they’re gone.
